Kaposvár  UniversityKaposvár  University is one of the largest universities in the  Southern  Transdanubian region of Hungary. Its establishment made Kaposvár the ninth university town in the country. Currently, education and research activities are carried out in four faculties: (Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, Faculty of Economic Science, Faculty of Pedagogy and Faculty of Arts) and in three partner institutes: the Pannon Equestrian Academy, the Feed Crops Research Institute, and the Bőszénfa Game Management and Landscape Center, where the scientific work is supported by the most modern equipment.

Objectives of study programme; professional competences to be acquired:
The objective of the study program is to train experts, who by obtaining a high level knowledge and skills in commerce and marketing, business and economics are able to purchase and market various products that are demand-driven as well as to organise, manage and control small and medium sized enterprises. The graduates are also prepared to continue their studies at master level.  

The experts who graduate in the bachelor's programme are able to:
Plan, manage, control, analyse key commerce and marketing functions at small or bigger companies. The practice based training will enable them to get insight of business processes as well as to apply successfully for job positions in various management fields of commerce and marketing.

Objectives of the study programme; professional competences to be acquired:
The objective of the study programme is to train experts, who by obtaining a high level theoretical and practical knowledge are able to analyse regional and ecological processes, to recognise relations and problems, to creatively and innovatively partake in regional and environmental policies, strategies and programmes and to follow regional and environmental sciences.

The students who graduate in the master's programme know:
Basic information on micro- and macro economy, regional and settlement studies as well as environmental economics, geographic and social studies;
Problem solving techniques to be applied as solutions to their tasks;
Criteria and conditions of adapting the acquired knowledge in practice;
Tools of orientation in the body of professional literature;
Information and methods required to recognise and analyse practical problems occurring in the environment-conscious management of economic and regional development.

The master graduates are able to

Work in the field of regional development and environment protection activities of various sectors, governmental and local bodies, institutions and companies;
Work both independently and as part of a team in analysing and planning activities, as well as to manage such teamwork;
Recognise and contribute to the decision-making process in social, economic and environmental problems occurring at settlement or regional level;
Fulfill tasks in the government sector, international and private organisations and public institutions.

Admission requirements:
- at least BSc degree (or equivalent) in a field of Animal Science, Agriculture, Game Biology and Game Production or Life Sciences.
- In case of a not fully acceptable BSc degree, the University may request the applicant to attend extra courses.
- a Grade Point Average (GPA) for the BSc study which is at least 75% of the maximum scale
- If the language of instruction is English: fluency in both written and spoken English. Applicants from non-Anglophone countries must have a certificate of proficiency in English, issued by a recognized language institute, such as TOEFL or IELTS. Applicants who have completed their BSc (or equivalent) degree studies in a programme where the language of instruction is English are not required to submit such certificate. The minimum pass scores are 6.0 for the IELTS, 550 for the written TOEFL test and 213 points for the computer based TOEFL test. Students who are required to submit a certificate of proficiency in English language may also be required to take an English language assessment test at the Kaposvár University Foreign Language Department prior to the beginning of the MSc study.
- If the language of instruction is Hungarian: fluency in both written and spoken Hungarian. Applicants who do not have a Hungarian citizenship or are not from a Hungarian minority community must have a medium level certificate of proficiency in Hungarian. Students who are required to submit a certificate of proficiency in Hungarian language may also be required to take a Hungarian language assessment test at the Kaposvár University Foreign Language Department prior to the beginning of the MSc study.

The aim of this study programme is to train skilled professionals well equipped to tackle the problems of animal nutrition, feed production and feed and food safety, and are able to perform planning, research and innovation tasks. Graduated students will be able to fulfill the requirements of PhD admission.
 
Basic courses 10-20 credits: biochemistry, microbiology, research methodology, nutritional physiology
Main compulsory courses 30-54 credits: cropping systems, grassland management, compound feed production, grain and feed preservation and qualification, technology, advanced animal nutrition (ruminants and monogastric animals), feed analysis, feed toxicology, nutritional and metabolic diseases, feed quality control, feed safety, safety and health at work, quality management, farm management, farm economics, business management, law and ethics in animal nutrition
Optional courses 30-35 credits: companion animal nutrition, fish nutrition, natural resource management, biometry, communication
Other courses: a minimum of 6 credits.
Thesis Work: 30 credits.
 
Requirements of farm practice: Duration: a minimum of 4 weeks scheduled by the University.

The PhD programme in Animal Science involves the following main topics:

Research related to food quality and safety, covering the entire vertical chain of animal food production, implementing the “from field to consumer” approach.

Studying the impact of animal food production on the environment, development of methods for producing animal products in an environmentally friendly way.

Research contributing to the improvement of the quality of life, studies related to the breeding and management of companion, hobby and sport animals.

The application of cutting-edge technologies in animal science: non-invasive digital imaging for animal science related fields of research, diagnostics and molecular biology.

The research in the Doctoral School for Management and Organisational Science involves economic policy, mainly focusing on agricultural economics and policy, analysis of economic and market processes with special emphasis on competitiveness, food marketing and world economics, regional development, rural policy and environmental management.

The structure of the doctoral school curriculum

The curriculum of the doctoral school was developed to suit the research profile. The backbone of the training is constituted by methodological subjects: Research methodology, Methods of qualitative research, Communication of scientific results, Multivariate statistics, Informatics in research and Econometrics. The compulsory professional subjects (Economic theory and economic policy, Organisational behaviour, Corporate sustainability) serve a dual function: to improve the preparedness of our students with different economic knowledge and to engage students to read standard works in the subject of economic science.
